MAYOR Andy Bowden got on his bike to open a new cycling hub in Taylor Park.
The new facility is part of the council’s commitment to develop a cycling culture across the town.
It is one of a handful across the borough, including the Fourways Children’s Centre in Clockface, Sankey Valley Heritage Centre in Blackbrook and Bold Miners Neighbourhood Centre.
As well as providing a focal point for free weekly organised bike rides the hubs act as a base for cycle skills and maintenance training and general information on using a bike for regular transport.
The Pedal St Helens Initiative is funded by the Department of Transport, and aims to offer alternative solutions to transport that support economic growth while reducing carbon emissions.
The council is keen to hear suggestions from people who want to get involved with the new hub. For more information email sustainabletransport@st helens.gov.uk or call 01744 67 1655.
