WHEN residents at Heald Farm Court retirement village decided they wanted a Christmas tree – they chose to knit their own.
Paul Barrett, activities co-ordinator at the Earlestown complex, explained: “For months the tenants have worked tirelessly on this unique project and are immensely proud of their achievement. The finished tree has become a focal point for the tenants and visitors.”
After designing a pattern they knitted 400 leaves then set to work creating decorations, snowmen, fairies, Father Christmas and baubles. Pupils from St Mary’s Junior School in Newton-le-Willows, pictured above, unveiled the amazing tree when they visited the village to entertain residents.
