A MODELLING competition for women is being launched as part of the Star’s 40th Birthday celebrations.

‘Miss St Helens Star’ will be seeking entries from across the borough for the contest that will culminate in a grand final on Friday, November 8.

The winner will be signed up by North West model agency, Angels Elite, and have a photo shoot with professional lensman Dave Gillespie.

The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges including Karen Maloney, of event sponsors Renaissance Beauty, Karen Cookson, of Angels Elite, and a representative from the Star.

Star promotions and events manager Zoe Donoghue said: “Miss St Helens Star was a great success in the early days of the paper and used to be a big hit at the St Helens Show.

“We thought bringing it back in our anniversary year would add some fun, as well as a touch of glamour, to our celebrations.”

Judges will be assessing appearance and personality of contestants when selecting the winner.

Initially entrants need to send head shot photographs of themselves to the Star before the deadline of Sunday, September 29.

Once all the entries are in, judges will draw up a shortlist to be featured in a special supplement in October and open a public vote.

Finalists will then make their appearances at the Function Room in November when judges will cast their votes.

They can send them through post or drop at reception or to the following email address: miss-st-helens@nqnw.co.uk.

The competition is open to women aged 18 or over who live in St Helens.
