NOW that’s more like it lads.

After spending parts of a disappointing season covering their eyes during games at Langtree Park, Saints supporters were finally given something to smile about on Monday night.

The new stadium – criticised for being “soulless” during its 18-month lifespan – was bouncing as Saints triumphed 22-16 in an enthralling derby tussle with Wigan.

Such was the mighty roar coming from the Saints end that one toddler was seen wearing ear protectors.

And there were plenty more animated faces on show during a night that fired the passions of supporters.

Afterwards coach Nathan Brown declared the victory had been “one for the fans”.

Later on the players joined in the buzz with the supporters on Twitter.

Skipper Paul Wellens tweeted: “We’ve served up some rubbish at home this season. Responded with a great effort tonight. That was one for the supporters #COYS.”
