TRAFFORD's inaugural Pride festival will celebrate LGBTQ+ life — and show there is no place for hatred in society.

The new event will run for five days between May 15 and 19 at the Waterside in Sale.

Cllr Tom Ross, mayor of Trafford, said: “Trafford is inclusive and fair. There is no room for homophobia and hatred in society today.

"This event will help celebrate our LGBTQ community and I am very proud to be part of it.”

The event programme features musician Heather Peace and comedians Tom Allen and Bethany Black. There will also be a performance from cabaret collective The Cocoa Butter Club.

Additionally, Manchester’s TransCreative will act as as guest curators for Creative Industries Trafford’s (CIT) regular scratch night, where artists test out new material on an audience.

CIT will also stage a panel event called Queer on Screen, looking at inequalities in the representation of people of colour and LGBTQ+ characters in the media.

Darren Adams, manager of Waterside, said: “As an opportunity to create a new Pride event for Trafford, it was important for us to reflect what we do at Waterside — presenting high quality events for our audiences, whilst supporting artists in their creative development.”

On Saturday, May 18, the Waterside will play host to local LGBTQ+ groups and charities.

Community arts workshops will run throughout the day, and HIV testing will be available.
