TENOR Martin Toal’s rich, musical voice will ring out at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse.

In his show, An Evening of Favourite Songs, Music and Dance, he combines his voice, well known for singing at football matches, with the talents of other, younger performers.

Luke Rose, a recent graduate of the Arden School of Theatre, will perform a duet with him.

In view of the difference in their ages, father-figure Martin, thought it appropriate to perform Bring him Home with Luke, 21.

Another talented young performer will be Scarlett Quigley, who recently appeared on ITV’s The Voice.

Pupils of the June Rendell Dance School and the choir of St Hugh’s RC Primary School will dance and sing their hearts out.

Martin believes Irish songs go down well especially when accompanied by fiddle player, Richard Sanderson

He said: “I will finish act one with my favourite aria, Nessun Dorma.”

It was hearing Pavarotti sing it in 1990 which got him singing professionally.

“I love singing in Italian,” he said.

Martin has an advantage when it comes to singing in languages. He is joint head of languages at St Ambrose College.

“This came in useful when I sang at an England versus Costa Rica pre-World Cup international at Elland Road, Leeds, last year.

“The Costa Rican FA said I sang their national anthem in Spanish better than the Costa Ricans!"

The Garrick concert will conclude with a patriotic rendering of Last Night of the Proms.

* The concert will take place at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse on Wednesday, January 30. For tickets, telephone 0161 928 1677 or email boxoffice@altrinchamgarrick.co.uk
