THE search is on for children to play the role of Tam in their forthcoming production of Miss Saigon at the Palace Theatre.

To fit the bill, youngsters must be aged between four and six to play the role of Tam in the forthcoming production.

The children must have a South East Asian look but will not need acting experience or be required to sing or dance.

Performances take place from March 19 to May 14 at 7.30pm with matinees at 2.30pm on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, January 20.

Cameron Mackintosh’s Children’s casting director Jo Hawes said: “Children never do two shows in a day and we cast sufficient children so that performances can be spread out. Ideally, we would like them to do two shows a week.”

Children will receive a performance payment and a payment for each rehearsal.

Their parents would be given mileage rate for travel and free tickets for their child’s first performance.

“The children will be chaperoned by experienced theatre chaperones during both rehearsals and performances.

“These ladies tour with the show and have worked with me before.

“They have licences and DBS checks issued by their local authority.

“The boys and girls are safe and happy with them,” said Jo.

Parents drop off and collect their children at given times.

Rehearsals will take place in Manchester on Thursday and Friday, March 1 and 2 and on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 13 and 14, followed by a Tam technical rehearsal on Friday, March 16.

Jo said: “Don’t be put off because this is a big show. It’s a lovely show and we will look after the children and make sure they have a good time.”
