THE Clone Roses return for a homecoming show on Saturday hoping to cap an “amazing year”.
The tribute band, who play the Citadel, have had a hectic year since their return of their idols.
Modifying their set to emulate that of the Madchester legends, the Clone Roses look and sound like the real thing.
Speaking to the Star, Clones frontman Gav Scott said: “The past year has been amazing for the band. We’ve really been spurred on since the Stone Roses reformed.
“At first we weren’t sure how the reunion was going to affect us but it has definitely been positive. We’ve seen a much younger crowd coming to our shows and musically, we’ve had to up our game to match the Roses.”
The original band’s return has made the Clones adjust their playing style in order to remain the most authentic tribute in the business.
On the night of Stone Roses’ Glasgow Green reunion show this summer, the Clone Roses, whose line-up also includes Gav’s brother Tony Scott, Mike Bagshaw and Phil Bennett, played Warrington’s Parr Hall and managed to sell more than 500 tickets.
Gav added: “It’s fantastic to sell out the Citadel year after year. If you ask any band at any level, they’ll all tell you that hometown shows are always the best. When we play in St Helens it is just like we are playing to a room full of friends. It really feels like we are St Helens’ Stone Roses.”
All tickets for the Saturday, November 23 show at the Citadel have sold out. To keep up-to-date with all the Clone Roses upcoming shows, visit thecloneroses.co.uk.
