LLOYD COLE is coming to the Citadel with a performance that is not to be missed.
The singer-songwriter rose to fame during the 80s and 90s while playing with his band Lloyd Cole and the Commotions and since then has produced several solo albums.
Currently conducting a nationwide tour in support of his latest release Standards, Cole has experimented more than ever with the record.
The 52-year-old said: “I wanted to make an album with a small fixed palette of sounds, like a Van Gogh, like Highway 61.
“For the last 10 years I’ve been primarily an acoustic musician but this is an album for electric guitars, electric bass and loud drums, with piano and a synthesiser for measure.”
Cole describes the new sound as “like T Rex or Led Zep playing Willie Nelson and Roy Orbison tunes”.
As well as playing his experimental new tracks, Cole will aim to delight the crowd with his hits from the past, likely to include Perfect Skin and Lost Weekend. His 1985 album Easy Pieces – recorded with the Commotions – went platinum in the UK and sparked a revival of the indie pop genre.
Lloyd Cole comes to the Citadel on Tuesday, November 5, and tickets – priced at £20 - are selling fast. To book, call the Citadel box office on 01744 735436.
