AN explosive stunt show was among the highlights at this year's Newton Town Show as thousands descended on Mesnes Park for the annual event.

The show saw a host of fun activities exhibits included the Stannage Stunt Display Team; helicopter pleasure flights; artillery displays; axe throwing; archery ; paintballing; fun fair; craft competition; classic car show; emergency services; local acts in the arena and brass bands.

There was also ferret racing, Husky Dogs and a display dedicated to the 1st Battalion Lancashire Regiment Prince of Wales Volunteers (PWV) to honour their service in the South Arabian Campaign (Aden) in 1967

Reflecting on the show, Cllr Seve Gomez-Aspron, of the NECG, said: “It’s an honour to chair the committee for the seventh year running, and once again the show was a roaring success! I need to say a massive thanks to THINK!, Newton RLFC, Kenny Jackson for the Classic Car Show Which had over 100 entrants this year, the volunteers from NECG and everybody else who made the day happen, especially the Park Ranger Service who are key to making the day happen.

"Around 10,000 people passed through the park on the day, and shows what can be achieved with public and business support. Bring on 2020!”
