DOES anyone know where we can find Maureen Griffiths from Windleshaw and/or Lily Farnen's granddaughter from Carr Mill?

Friends are trying to get a boxing medal back to John Farnen who would "dearly love to have it"

The original story that appeared in Whalley’s World was about a boxing medal, won by his father Bert Farnen, which Peter Harvey found.

Peter explains; “Through Maureen Griffiths, who came from the Windleshaw area of the town, I found and interviewed, Lily Farnen, not her married name, who came from Carr Mill.

“Her house was opposite Carr Mill School. I know that I gave the medal to Lily, who was very close family to Bert. We were told that there was a son in the Isle of Man but the whereabouts were unknown.

“But when I went there this week, I was told that Lily died a couple of years ago and perhaps her granddaughter might be able to help.

Lily's granddaughter was not to be found and neither was Maureen Griffiths, my original contact.”

Peter continues “John Farnen, Bert's son, who now lives in the Manchester area, has written to the Star, and contacted me. He would dearly love to have this boxing medal.

“John explained how and why the family had moved around the country after his father, Bert, had been blinded by a hand grenade during his service in India; and had never seen his sons as they were born after the war.”

So folks, can you help? We want this long running story have a happy ending.
