I knew Denis through West Park RUFC, where I played in the ‘70s. His sister, Alma, taught me at Holy Cross primary school. Both were very kind to me, Alma helping me to pass the 11+, and Denis by his generosity towards my performances in the green and gold jersey in his match reports for the St Helens Reporter. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that we shared the same surname... Denis always wrote in positive terms, you could believe everything he typed, unlike many of today’s hacks. A life well lived, RIP.

Denis was a nice man, he told me his name was 'Denis the Menace'. I served him a lot in Morrisons especially on the garden centre. Denis was always cheerful and happy. I will miss him. Morrisons has lost and will miss this wonderful character.
