Dog owners should be ashamed

WINDLE dog owners should be ashamed of themselves as today, now the snow has thawed, I took my three year old daughter out for a walk which took me through Stuart Way entry.

I was appalled with what I was confronted with.

Dog muck left all along the alleyway which the dog owners hadn't bothered to clean up during the recent bad weather.

Can you please print this letter in your next edition so that it shames these dog owners into cleaning up after their dogs.

It is supposed to be a fixed penalty offence.

Peter McKenny, Windle (details received)

Sorry but you will never shame those types friend, they could not give a toss. Its not only dog mess that snow covers but also the remains of were the litter bugs have been. I saw a young girl in a doctors surgery the other day drop her empty crisp bag on the floor in the waiting room and nobody uttered a sound. She was wearing the uniform of one of our so called top schools as well.

Goes hand in hand with the type of natives Im afraid, it was in the press about dog attacks in St Helens, when you see the great unwashed getting Staffordshire terriers to pull tyres around Taylor park to build them up it speaks volumes. I enjoyed the snow whilst it lasted, everything, even around here, looked clean for a change.

I emailed Brian Spencer, Councillor on the 17th of Jan this year detailing my concerns about the exact same issue. I won't go into the details of the letter, but needless to say I am still waiting to hear back from Mr Spencer.
However, I did say I would be prepared to meet him to discuss my thoughts on helping reduce this behaviour. I also asked how may dog owners have been issued with fixed penalties over the past 12 months.
Whilst waiting for my reply, if anyone can point me in the direction of a dog dirt free park in the town to take my children, please reply with the name of the park.

There's nowhere dog muck free. Carr Mill Dam is as bad, I have to dodge it nearly all the way round when running there, some mounds the size of horse muck

I completely agree with the above comments. Being a responsible dog-owner - and I do know of many others who are - I always pick up after my dog. Morning walks with my dog is marred by dog-mess all over the ground and I invariably have to clean the soles of my walking shoes when I get home, no matter how carefully I tread. The recent snow seems to have been an excuse for dog owners not to pick up after their dogs, but I have to say that I found it easier to pick up in the snow. Come on you iresponsible dog owners, stop giving us all a bad name and pick up your pooches poops - even if there is no-one around to see you leave it.....

Roll on bonfire night, pay back time.
Picking up dog dirt has nothing what so ever to do with the council Jumper, the lazy and ignorant amongst the dog owning residents of St Helens should be ashamed, it reflects directly on the town, coupled with the litter and residents wearing PJs in the town centre at mid day the word "awful" springs to mind.
