ALTHOUGH I am not one for writing to the press, I felt that I must mention two things worthy of praise in St Helens.
First, after treatment at the Eye Clinic,at St Helens Hospital, I have nothing but praise for the dedicated doctors and nurses, their efficiency and kindness could not be faulted, they are second to none!
Second, I must also praise the council for their Culture, Sport & Heritage Department with Wally Ashcroft as Executive member.
I was one and a half hours late getting home with my shopping on Saturday, 13th June because I happened to come across the Brass Band Concert being held on Town Hall Square.
As I sat amongst the large audience, mainly elderly (although there were a few younger folk) one had only to look at their rapt faces and tapping toes to see that this was a rare treat - on a lovely summer’s day too!
I have no doubt that, like me, they were transported back to their younger days when we enjoyed the brass bands on our walking days etc.
What a treat, and one I shall remember for a long time. I don't begrudge the teenagers having events aimed at them. Wally Ashcroft, his wife Nancy and their departments work hard to please all age groups.
St Helens has a Town Centre Summer Events Calendar that most nearby towns must envy.
Thanks again to our council and especially Mr Ashcroft for their efforts in making St Helens a town worth visiting.
