It distresses me to read that the special funding to continue with the specialised treatment that many patients have received from the burns unit at Whiston Hospital over the years, has not been granted.
As a former burns patient at Whiston Hospital, I received the very best treatment from all the staff at the unit at a very difficult time in my life.
I was in the unit for a long time and the doctors and staff were very supportive, not only to me but to my family.
Burns patients will now have to travel a lot further, to either Manchester or Wakefield to receive the vital treatment they need.
Relatives will have longer travelling times, and this may restrict the time that is needed with their loved ones at what is the worst time in their lives.
The unit is of great importance to Merseyside, and I would urge all Merseyside MPs to support that the burns unit stays at Whiston and Alder Hey Children’s Hospitals.
It has been reported that some MPs have concerns about the way the review has been carried out without consultation.
I have the support to keep the unit at Whiston from my local councillors: Sheila Seddon, Richard McCauley and Patricia Martinez Williams, along with my friends and relatives.
