I MUST thank St Helens Council for their prompt reply to my recent letter regarding the progress of the construction work at Windle Island.

As I anticipated in their reply no one is prepared to confront the much larger problem that exists at this dangerous cross over from Tesco over on to Bleak Hill Road where there are no traffic lights for guidance or safety.

I find that their reluctance to confront or even discuss this serious problem extremely confusing due to the fact that way back in 2016 a council member in answer to one of my letters stated, “I am pleased to say that this junction is to be included in the councils forthcoming plans for Windle Island.”

If such a plan exists then we have the right to be made aware of them.
Another point that I feel deserves an explanation relates to the financing of this project which I find very confusing.

Last year we were informed that the work on Windle Island would commence in August 2017 and last for eight weeks at a cost in the region of £7,000,000.

We are now being told that the work will commence in August 2018 and last for 40 weeks at a cost of in the region of £7,000,000.

If this latest figure is correct this represents an additional 32 weeks of expensive civil work for no additional costs.

That’s what I call a real deal.
