ALONG with other residents, I would like a representative from the local council to explain through the columns of your newspaper as to why the proposed alterations at Windle Island have never materialised.

To the casual observer little or nothing has been done in the past 12 months despite the promise of a starting date of August 14 and a completion date some eight weeks later.

He or she might further enlighten us all as to any proposed safety measures to this highly dangerous crossing from the entrance/exit from Tesco across to Bleakhill Road which is considered by all users to be far more urgent.

In the coming months more traffic will be spilling through this exit onto Rainford Road due to the closing of the exit from Tesco onto the East Lancs Road and the additional cars coming from the new houses being built on Bleakhill Road.

If the council and the highways department are fully aware of this dangerous crossing and do little or nothing to rectify the situation then it is my opinion that they could possibly  be accountable for “corporate negligence” if and when a serious accident should occur.
