THIS week I found myself in a predicament caused by the council refusing to take contents of my kerbside caddy due to the fact it was contaminated.

We are asked to put food waste including chicken, fish etc.
Which is exactly what I did.

Apparently there were maggots in the food bags which will have been caused by our weather just now.

I am a pensioner and was left with the not so nice job of sorting out the problem.

The town hall told me to empty the black bag contents into my brown bin, which had just been emptied.

This meant the black bag contents would have had a further two weeks to breed.

I felt I couldn’t comply with this request.

After speaking again with the town hall department, I was told to take the black bag to the recycling facility in St Helens.

Suffice to say I found this impossible. I had had an absolutely horrendous hour trying to transfer the food bags into the black bag the night before.

It made me physically sick.

The smell was awful even though the waste was in four black sacks.

A kind neighbour took the bag to the recycle facility otherwise I just don’t know what I would have done.

One thing for sure is I will NOT be using that caddy again and perhaps the council should suspend the scheme during the warm weather or take meat, chicken fish etc. off the acceptable list of items to be placed in these caddies.
