IN response to the reader who recently asked the question as to why the Arriva bus to Haydock always comes when it feels like it.

The answer is simply because the punctuality of the bus service throughout Merseyside leaves much to be desired and you are lucky if a bus turns up at all.

I recently had the misfortune to witness this inefficiency for myself on Sunday, May 6.

The bus no 38 (a Merseytravel service run by HTL on Sundays) was scheduled to leave the Central bus station at 4.33pm and 5.33pm respectively for destination Rainford failed to turn up on both occasions, leaving people stranded without any explanation or apology.

If the efficiency of our transport is to be improved then the powers that be should examine the workings of the Japanese transport system which is recognised as the best in the world.

Verification of this fact is evident when a recent headline in a Japanese newspaper stated the following: “Japanese train company issues apology for 25 second delay.”

Clarification: This letter was amended to point out that the 38 service on Sundays is run by HTL on behalf as Merseytravel.
