THE Windrush Generation has been capturing the headlines recently… for all the wrong reasons.
On a more positive note I wonder if anyone can still remember Joe Julius, a West Indian guy I met in the 1960s when I used to do odd jobs at my uncle’s garage in College Street.
To my knowledge Joe held at least three jobs… all at once! He was proud to do his bit for his Mother Country and raise a family.
He worked in the garage and on my uncle’s brick wagons at the old Roughdales, did shifts at United Glass and was a fireman (part-time I hope) too.
I used to have a photo of him proudly sporting his firecrew uniform.
He still remains in my memory as one of the most cheerful souls you could ever wish to meet.
Can any Star reader tell me what happened to Joe or his family?
