I WRITE concerning the history of the crossings on the dual carriageway opposite Sherdley Park.

I was walking past the crossings a few weeks ago and was taken back in time to when I was involved in the community in Sutton.

For quite a while there was no crossing for the kids to get across the dual carriageway so we set up a campaign to get one.

It was in the late 70s we blocked the road with people.

I remember some mothers had prams and push chairs.

As I remember there was only two councillors who supported us.

They were the late Jimmy Bond, from Labour, and the late Tony Brown, who was a Conservative.

Jimmy was a Councillor for Sutton and Tony was a Councillor in Rainford.
Those two men were the two best councillors of that period, in my opinion.

We got the crossing for the kids.

No other political party supported us.

I am not a member of any political organisation but I remember those genuine men.
