WHEN it was yesterday

When not many thing came our way

And yet it was the start of things

‘Humble’ may be a start

In history, such as the rag ball,

tied up with string

kicked along the street

by men with hobnail boots and clog

upon their feet

They had team and sides

It was always exciting

No arguing, no fighting

It was a homely game

They didn’t play it for gain

when funds were needed it was just a tanner

rag and string

made a ball and the game was played for all
Not like today

the prices blow the ordinary man away

A fancy ball today,

played once by all the joy

once played with a rag ball

and is a millionaires game.
