I WAS pleased to read your article “Captain earned Military Cross” about Dr Ferrie.
He was our family doctor before and after the dawn of the NHS.
I was born in 1945. I had a “strawberry” birthmark on my nose which he removed using dry ice.
Just before the NHS came into force I was very ill in hospital and Dr Ferrie stayed by my bedside until the early hours of Christmas morning before calling to tell my mother that the worst was past and I would live.
I owe a lot to this man.
He looked stern and had no time for malingerers but when the chips were down he was one of the best.
I was sorry when he retired.
A good man and a great doctor.
Thanks for the memory.
