WE live in the three-storey flats on Gillars Green Estate in Eccleston.

In February 2016 we heard rumours, confirmed by Helena Partnerships, that our social housing flats were being demolished, with new build homes for outright sale replacing them.

The following August myself and two other tenants were asked to a meeting at Helena Central with Nora Wade, Tony McKinnon and Dan Bradley’s deputy to discuss the way forward as a campaign was underway by tenants to protect their rights.

Nora and Tony listened and passed on our requests.

There were subsequently letters, emails, face to face meetings and an open day to discuss plans.

Plans for phase one of the new build have been submitted. I would like to extend my thanks to the team for actually taking account of tenants’ wishes and giving us everything we asked for.

Special mention must be made of Craig Winterburn.

His face to face interaction with tenants on a daily basis ensured tenants were relocated with the minimum amount of stress as possible to them.

It is not often large organisations take notice of minority groups, but it is refreshing to note that whilst commercialism and generating income is paramount in any sphere of industry, some companies do have the interests of those they serve at heart.
