GREAT to see that the Reminisce festival was a great success and enjoyed by 9,000 partygoers.

But it would be good now to see some of the money that was made being spent on Sherdley Park.

I hadn’t been in some time since moving to Haydock and I was in for a shock.

I thought I would take my elderly mother there and reminisce on days she used to take me as a kid.

What has happened to this great park?

I know we have to make cut backs but there is nowhere to get a drink or a snack.

No Pets Corner but it’s still there rusting up. No sounds of children laughing running from one pen to another to see the animals.

The ducks and geese in the pond seem to have left as well.

Around the gardens even the flowers have left just circles of dust where once flowerbeds lay.

Not one flower could be seen as we sat on a bench to reminisce of what it was like in the 80s and 90s. The fish pond and fountain are now flagged over.

We headed home chatting about how the park has changed so much. Back in my day it was great. Never thought I would utter those words my dad says to me.

So if we are using the park for future events let’s see a bit of the cash siphoned off to make the park a nicer place to visit.

But for the moment if you want to see nice flower beds go round the town hall. They’re well stocked around there.
