I DO understand why some people call for the legalisation of drugs but I’m honestly not sure it is the answer.
We have an epidemic of poor mental health in this country and drugs is a contributory factor in that.
We also have a clear issue of people taking drugs and driving.
Only a couple of years back I recall a case where a lorry driver ran into the back of a car on the M56 and the car driver was killed.
The lorry driver had been taking amphetamine and smoking cannabis only a few hours beforehand.
Then there is the fact that bootlegging of alcohol and cigs already takes place on an industrial scale.
If current illegal drugs were suddenly make legal it still doesn’t stop people smuggling them in or avoiding paying tax etc.
