REFERRING to the letter from Terry of St Helens on April 20, I agree wholeheartedly with his comments.
The town centre is a disgrace.
How we hope to attract shoppers from neighbouring towns is beyond me. Even the charity shops are disappearing.
I would be embarrassed to take visitors into the town.
The biggest shop premises in the main arcade has been taken over by Poundland.
In my opinion the start of our problems was dividing the town into two halves by paving over the Town Hall square, therefore, preventing traffic to travel from one end to the other. What a waste of money.
Oh for the days of my youth when Queen Victoria was resident in the centre of the square surrounded by buses coming and going to all surrounding areas of our then thriving town.
