I QUESTIONED a member of the public over why he was throwing stones at a cormorant on a stretch of canal called The Hotties.

His reply was “they are a nuisance and eat the fish”.

Since then the cormorant has been found dead, floating in the water.

This cormorant was the first one I had ever seen; it had decided to nest on the roof of the Chalon Court Hotel.

As someone who values nature, whether it is a tiny insect or a bird of prey, it is horrifying to see such a beautiful bird’s life ended for no reason.
