IN response to Peter Astles’ letter about the green belt.

I would like to point out that I believe that the local development plan being proposed by the local authority is not one dimensional as it would attract the attention of other major developers from other industries including IT and engineering.

This is an opportunity we as a town must not miss out on.

When I look around our town I see lives and communities that have been shattered because of unemployment and major employers pulling out of St Helens and Newton-le-Willows.

These include Rockware, Parkside, Bold and Sutton Manor, Beechams, the Vulcan Foundry and the many Pilkington plants that have closed over the years. The list goes on.

So let’s stop playing games with people’s lives and get these plans in place and start to rebuild our communities.

I live in Sutton Manor and there is nothing left here for these wonderful people.

It is virtually the same all over town so let us all take a stand for our communities and support the development plans.
