WE are all aware of the steady decline of our town centre and I am sure we all agree something needs to be done.
A starting point for the authority should be clearing the rough sleepers from the town centre.
I counted seven rough sleepers huddled in quilts.
All of them had the begging bowl out and all of them quite well dressed, which begs the question are they homeless or professional beggars?
Either way they have no place in the town centre.
Why don’t the police move them on?
I thought we had laws about vagrancy and begging?
Why are they not being enforced? The reason could be that I couldn’t find a policeman on duty in Church Street – not even a community support officer.
So St Helens councillors take a walk down Church St next Saturday and think about how you could improve things and make St Helens a place you would want to bring a visitor too.
Concerned resident,
Rainhill
