I’VE read plenty of complaints from readers on these pages about St Helens going backwards – and the need to bring jobs and investment to the borough.
But what happens when the council puts forward proposals to do just that (in the shape of the Local Plan) - the idea gets absolutely hammered.
Now I get where some of the critics are coming from, particularly about the green belt. But is all the land earmarked beautiful rolling fields? I’m not so sure.
If we want to catch up with other boroughs with house building and investment then we need a plan for growth - and the fact that big logistics companies and housing developers are queuing up is encouraging for the town.
More jobs, means more spending power in the town – then the good shops and restaurants will see us as more attractive and look to follow.
