I WAS horrified to read one of our elected councillors, who should be concerned about the future of all the citizens of St Helens, actually praising the plan to destroy the green belt around our town.
Yes, private developers are very happy when councillors roll over and agree to releasing our open space on the empty promise of ‘jobs’.
What we are being offered are glorified lorry parks and warehouses. How many real jobs come out of those?
These developers will concrete over acres of fields and cut down the trees. The fields and trees absorb rainfall and prevent flooding.
We are now seeing the result all over Britain of stupid planning, with flooding and roads blocked with cars and lorries.
Once concreted over, the fields are gone for ever, and yet more fields will be ripe for gobbling up by greedy developers.
