Where will the council’s fickle finger fall?
The council knows that it has to build;
but the land that it holds is not the ‘right’ sort.
It has requirements to be filled,
so other areas must be bought.
Of course, people need somewhere to live;
while others want to keep a decent view.
So someone’s will will have to give:
What could St Helens Council do?
Maybe a farmer’s got some land to sell.
Turning the land is tough;
He’s had enough:
But this idea might not sit too well.
Some people will have extra traffic noise;
warehouses, estates, air pollution too.
They’ll see how the council’s activity destroys
the environment it breaks through.
But: I bet some folk escape the change.
Their communities will remain the same.
The council will see no need to re-arrange:
but then face hostility and blame.
So, let’s think about what the council could do
to solve a problem that’s obviously there.
They could carefully think the issue through;
Then show us that they really care
by issuing a solution that’s truly fair:
[like letting each community take its share].
