IF you know the section of green belt land which runs the length of Liverpool Road from the East Lancs at the bottom to Millfield Lane, Haydock at the top, then you’ll know about its beauty and how important our open spaces are for our mental and physical wellbeing.
It’s something we take for granted, it’s just there; we see it, we play on it, take our dogs for a walk on it, but when you are faced with having it taken away, then you realise what you are going to lose.
I have been blown away by the many wonderful things I have witnessed around this special site. such as the skylark, singing blissfully in a blue sky and the lapwings, parading their mottled chicks along the path for all to see.
This is just a small glimpse of the wonder and diversity on this land and what will be lost forever if permission to build this concrete monstrosity of a distribution centre goes ahead.
During the winter months this land floods and is under water for many weeks at a time. On stormy days the gulls stand to face the howling wind so as not to ruffle their waterproof feathers.
Like the gulls we also need to stand strong, to face the storm ahead, to face this challenge head on and stop this reckless act.

Liverpool Road, Pewfall
