IN response to a letter from councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron, I would like the opportunity to debate the pros and cons of any planned development of Parkside.
However in the absence of any plans it is very difficult to comment on anything other than the opportunity to create new jobs and the likely impact on "environmental" conditions for those that live in the area.
I would like to clarify that I am not against the redevelopment of Parkside – I have genuine concerns, not outright objections.
Concentrating on one topic only: can the councillor – or anyone else for that matter – confirm the answer to the following two questions: 1. How many jobs will be created in total by the redevelopment of Parkside?
2. How many of those jobs will be guaranteed for local people, including training?
If the jobs were guaranteed for local residents based on hard fact – for example by referring to the very recent and almost identical development of the Omega site – then I would fully support this plan, despite my other reservations.
