AS I travel throughout the North West on a daily basis I cannot help but notice how dirty an unmaintained one side of the town seems to be to the other.

If you travel up the St Helens Linkway from Rainhill Stoops junction to Sutton Heath/Thatto Heath (and surrounding areas) there is excessive litter, broken fences and overgrown planted areas. However come into St Helens from Windle and Eccleston and it is quite different story. Why?

I like everyone else in the town pay rates (4 per cent increase this year) but see very little in the overall area being maintained or improved. I have on many occasions contacted the council to make complaints and suggestions but I sometimes feel that it falls on deaf ears.

The Linkway is one of the main arterial routes into the town, but it just gives out a poor impression to any visitors to St Helens. Maybe someone from the council should have a drive around this area and see how bad and neglected it has become.
