I WAS glad to read that St Helens Hospital has gained an 'outstanding' rating (Star, January 20) but what about when someone needs emergency care?
It doesn't have an A&E so we have to go to Whiston whenever we have an accident. But what if someone had a life-threatening accident at night and no money for a bus fare or a taxi?
That person couldn't wait until the walk-in centre opened the following morning and if that person phoned for an ambulance they might be afraid it won't come on time if the people on the other end don't think it's serious.
We need an A&E – not having one could put people's lives at risk.
