SO TYRERS is closing — another nail in the coffin for St Helens.

Instead of trying to attract other quality shops to St Helens to bring in shoppers from outside the borough, it will probably be turned into a pound shop, charity shop or drinking establishment, with the council probably maintaining it’s what the people want, once again.

But, no it isn’t.

We want a town centre with a variety of quality shops, not just cheap end.

Ali Tyrer has tried her best to sell quality products and maintain current trends, but without other similar shops lending support in the town, she has probably found it difficult.

Thanks Ali for trying to maintain an institution that has been the backbone of St Helens for generations.

What will be next to leave the town, M&S?
