WITH regards to Chris Coffey's column (Star, October 1) I very much agree with 'keeping' the air raid shelter by the Wellington pub as a local feature.
Also, as you may be noticing now there are some dated buildings under threat in St Helens.
One is Earlestown bus station.
No one, apart from a few seem to care about heritage.
Second, Earlestown Town Hall is once again under threat, it's a perfectly good building and a landmark when travelling via Burtonwood by bus.
The Ram's Head pub, Haydock is being left to rot.
In my opinion, all buildings in St Helens and nationally before 1900 should be preserved and maintained in good order.
It is our fine heritage dwindling away because unenlightened people are in charge at our town hall.
I would have coach trips around the town hall, World of Glass, Transport Museum and Haydock Park and I'd have a coal mine preserved (and people going down it).
The whole town needs 'shaking up' in this regard as St Helens has lots of potential.
