IN response to the 'Superfast is taking its time' by the Haydock resident (Star letters, July 16). I too was led to believe a similar tale. Not by a friend but by BT themselves, stating that it was the council who had prevented the cabinet from being updated.

Maybe it was coincidence that when I had rang BT to negotiate a better deal for my phone and broadband, the adviser stated that Infinity would be here shortly. Alas when it didn't arrive I rang them back and was met with the aforementioned comment.

I rang the planning department and spoke to a very helpful and informative lady who advised that no such thing had taken place. Indeed the Government were keen to have us all on better broadband and to refuse an upgrade of this type of communications media would be contradictory.

The cabinet incidentally is on the corner of Avondale Road and Haydock Lane and where I live we get a broadband 'speed' of 0.5 Mbps.
