I WOULD just like to express my dismay at the state of the streets in the Sutton area. I regularly walk my dog up past Junction station towards and along Reginald Road, round Monastery Road and Ellamsbridge Road, Worsley Brow and Watery Lane.

The litter and mess along these streets are appalling. I recently found a dead rat there and notified the first refuse collector I passed only to be told that it wasn’t on his rounds so he could not help. There are autumn leaves turning to mulch on the pavements from last year.

In two months time they’ll be covered with fresh leaves which I’m guessing will be left until the following autumn., meaning we’ll have three years worth of leaves cluttering the pavements!

That’s before I even start about the sweet wrappers, crisp packets and broken bottles or cans of both soft and alcoholic drinks. Sutton used to be a very clean looking area that people took pride in but the level of detritus leaves me ashamed to live here.

I have recently returned from holiday in Yorkshire and let me assure you the streets there are not lined with dog mess, discarded wrappers, cans and fallen leaves. Nor are the farmers’ hedgerows littered with dog poop bags like those that adorn Reggie Road! We hear so much about the litter issues in areas like Sherdley Park – what about our residential areas?
