I AM bringing to the attention of residents of Newton-le-Willows a rubbish dump which hasn’t been advertised, but quite a few people use.

It starts at the end of the community hospital near the nursing home. On display at the side of the footpath are plastic bottles, crisp bags, empty drink cans and assorted sweet wrappers.

Carrying on down the path to the canal, and as well as the previously mentioned litter, there are alcoholic drink cans and beer bottles as well as cardboard. There are also plastic bags which thoughtful dog owners have used to clear up after their pets and deposited in the undergrowth.

Walking along the path at the side of the canal and walking up towards the trading estate over the metal railings, on the left-hand side of the footpath, is another display of litter. Up on to the trading estate, there are cigarette butts on the footpath outside of the warehouse firm, followed by plastic sheeting, cardboard and the rest.

I cannot remember when I last saw rubbish being cleared in this area. But I don’t blame the council, I blame the dirty inconsiderate members of the public who seem to think it is normal behaviour to dump rubbish. Maybe a hefty fine for depositing rubbish could be the answer, but then who will police it?
