I AM writing in regards to Hope Academy. A letter I have received says the new principal will be bringing in a policy from September to stop the kids wearing their own clothes.

The girls have to wear a white blouse, black trousers/skirt, black shoes and a black jacket. Boys will wear a white shirt, black trousers, shoes and jacket. No jewellery except watch, no piercings or visible tattoos and no hair dye, except natural colour.

I think this is absolutely outrageous, these young people are becoming adults and are getting ready to enter the workplace.

This time of transition is so important and these changes will not only highly affect those already in sixth form but the intake for September. I have two children already in sixth form, a girl and a boy, and I can safely say these changes will affect their education.

The head of sixth form has already just started to implement the changes.

She has told my daughter to take out her lip bar and her friend to make an appointment to get her hair changed back to her natural colour and remove her piercing.

The letter says these changes come into affect from September – not now.
