I WOULD like to thank the writer who praises all the good attributes of Taylor Park last week. It is indeed a beautiful park for the use of all residents of St Helens and surrounding areas.

I agree with all the positive remarks and some of the negative ones, such as waste left by drinkers, fast food enthusiasts, and disposable nappy dumpers.

There is also a very anti-social habit of fishing line and hooks and lures being left in the lake that has injured two cygnets recently.

These problems will get worse thanks to our councils plans to cut ranger services in the park and other parks. Our rangers help create all the positive things the writer highlights. However, the letter is yet another attack on dog users and it fails to mention careful dog owners.

Dog mess bags are available free in the ranger station and most responsible owners use this facility religiously and pick up any mess our dogs may do. We cannot be expected to be responsible for those that don’t care.

I do agree this is a problem. The writer asks “what’s the answer”? I would suggest stop plans to slash key council services because if these cuts happen the problems will get worse.
