FOLLOWING some of the comments surrounding last week’s public sector strike, I still can’t understand why people think teachers have an easy life.
They don’t just do office hours, they work many hours longer at home or engaged in after-school activities that develop young people. Call me old fashioned, but isn’t that what parents are supposed to do?
If teachers only did what they were paid to do, we’d all need to do a lot more work with our own children.
As for the age old argument of holidays, anyone who has spent any time around a teacher will know all too well that they work through their holidays too, preparing work for the next term so the children stay interested.
Their holidays are also fixed so, if they have families too, they can only go on holidays at the most expensive times of the year.
If people think that teachers have any easy life and are overpaid, why don’t they re-train as one and give it a shot? I think you’d soon change your view!
