Gassed, shot and blown up,

Barely a grown up,

Fighting in Belgium and France.

Trudging through trenches

Sleeping on benches,

Teenagers taking a chance.

Brave, gallant soldiers

Shoulder to shoulder

Lay down their lives for a cause.

A century later

Take time to remember

All those who died in the wars.

Blood, red like poppies

Shed for their country,

Bodies under the sod.

Dead unknown heroes

Fill graveyards in Flanders

Their names known only to god.
