ON Friday, June 13, I was travelling home on the 5.16pm from Lime Street in Liverpool.

The train was soon full of passengers and people were looking for vacant seats.

I was really surprised that considering the amount of people standing others were taking up seats with their bags.

And I was equally surprised that those standing did not ask the passengers to move the bags so they could sit down.

As the journey progressed I had the feeling that the guard would have pointed out that this problem needed to be addressed. However, he did not.

As I was leaving the train I did ask the people concerned if they thought it was right that people had been standing from Liverpool while they had seats that should have been vacant.

I was looked at like I was talking a foreign language. These people were all in their twenties and did not comprehend why I had pointed out their ignorance.

I had a word with the driver and upon my complaint, he agreed that it should not happen but it was up to the guard to point out the problem.

I would ask one thing: where has respect and good manners for others gone?

No one can tell me they didn’t see people standing while they had taken seats incorrectly. Are good manners not being taught anymore at home or in school?
