Stop moaning and do your bit

St Helens Star: Stop moaning and do your bit Stop moaning and do your bit

IN recent letters in the Star, recycling work has had a bad press. We have found the service to be excellent.

The bin men seem to work longer days now but our containers are always emptied.

Mr Morris, who saw a rat crossing Ashtons Green Drive, should be aware that littering is far more likely to attract rats.

People should stop moaning and do their bit to improve the town’s recycling rates.

You must live in the same road as one of your councillors - here in West Park, there has only been one day when everything has been collected, and that took until 7 p.m.

I've just heard of someone who complained that their recycling hadn't been collected and they came out the next day and collected it! - His - but no one elses! Brilliant stuff!

A resounding success! Our estate was lovely until 2 months ago - the people who live here including the old vicar take pride in their gardens - now it looks like a ghetto , litter everywhere.
Can the council not be fined for littering - after all it's their inept methods that are causing the litter to be strewn everywhere?

We are told to put our recycling out BEFORE 6.30am on a Friday. Quite often it isn't picked up until 8 or 9 pm and sometimes left until Saturday. Its been a total disaster from the start and the disarray is getting worse.

I think that Mr Grayson will find that residents ARE doing their bit - its the Council who are once again letting the residents of this town down.

I was perfectly happy to do my bit - until I became aware of two things. We have to put our bins out before 6.30am but they weren't collected until 9.30pm.
With yesterday's high winds all my bags and boxes have disappeared - and the council aren't exactly bending over backwards to replace them.
I therefore CAN'T do my bit until they are replaced, and like barrie timpson says, our cul de sac was pristine until this shambles of a scheme started.

St.Helens Council are making fools out of all the council tax payers,Increasing Council Tax, dictating what time they wake up, to put refuse out, dictating that we act as unpaid recycling sorters, dictate that we clear up uncollected rubbish, after their failure to fulfill their contractual obligations, that we the council tax payer have paid them for.
Pocketing the profits from recycling revenue with no discount or bonus to the taxpayer.
I wonder why Trading Standards, The Advertising Standards Authority & Environmental Health Dept have taken no action against St.Helens Council over the numerous laws they have broken.
If the ordinary person on the street committed these offences, St.Helens Council Legal Dept wound come down on us like a ton of bricks.
Double standards indeed.

Nothing wrong with the old recycling scheme,St Helen's council have spent in excess of £750,000 and the only extra being collected is left over food.
Cardboard went in the green bin and was contained, not blowing over everywhere as it does now.

Only our Council could spend three quarter of a million pounds on a system that is neither use nor effective. Quite frankly, it is a complete and utter shambles. No wonder the town is in the state it is when we have these imbeciles organising anything.

70% of us did not, Sankey, and therein lies the problem. The voters cannot be bothered turning out, or like me have no time for the three main political parties, and therefore no choice apart from a spoiling the ballot paper.

It's nothing to do with recycling it's called cost cutting.Mark my words next year when they start making more council refuse workers they don't need redundant.

Apart from themselves, of course. We have 48 councillors costing us around half a million pounds a year, yet all major decisions are taken by a small cabinet of the chosen few and nodded through by the rest. You get what less than a third of St. Helens voted for. They might be useless, but we elected them!
