STAR LETTER: I could eat a horse...

WHAT is all the uproar about horse meat being used in burgers?

What do people think they get when they buy a beefburger? The point is that we have eaten animal meat, including horse meat since I can remember. We accept it as normal to eat cows, lamb, deer, pig, wild boar, chicken.

The only reason that it seems wrong to me to eat horse is it is regarded as a sporting or pet icon.

I ask the people who disagree with eating horsemeat, have they ever been abroad and not queried what goes into the meals.

If people went to the trouble of reading the content of the majority of food bought in their local supermarket, I am sure they would get a shock.

We could even take the argument a little further and tell people that dog is even eaten in some countries, there again this would automatically be against our principles because of the massive pet tradition in this country.

Finally may I say that I would agree that if horse meat were in burgers or whatever how come it has only been brought to light by investigation and not by customer complaint.

Also may I say that I would not cry away from eating horsemeat as I have never turned my nose up at a steak.

The only difference between a horse and a cow is one runs faster than the other and I never lost any money on a cow.

This has nothing to do with if horse is a good meat or not its about the fact you buy something that isnt what it says on the packet plain and simple!!!

Its certainly not as black and white as you try to make it Les!!!

Deary me Les this is not one of your finer pieces of work is it. Totally agree with jumper and munky , also it is very important to remember that horse meat when treated with phenylbutazone can cause blood disorders.
How do you manage to get a letter printed every week by the way? and is there an anthology of your work available from the star office??

Unfortunately the horse meat found here came via Romania were they do. Besides if it says something on the packet you expect to get said product.

Horsemeat, (yum yum) is a vegetarian free zone. Pittbull, looking at the side of packets never existed in the War and soon after when horse was a delicacy. We ate it! and little bunny rabbits. Those that eat flesh as mankind was a carnivour (eat or be eaten), I see little difference from horse to any other meat and is quite common overseas.

In the far east rat, dog and cat are on the menu and so is anything else that moves on legs or its belly.
I like all my food to have looked over or through a fence but my wife and some very good veggie friends thinks eating flesh is beyong the pale.

As the latest tests have shown it's a bit of a non story which we have all swallowed if you get the pun (or is it pony) Still it bred (from the national Stud?)some very good jokes.

Good letter Les, it was many years ago when we stopped eating each other. Now I would draw the line at eating a Tory!!

I have no problem eating horse. If I went to a restaurant and horse was on the menu then I would consider it. If however it was treated with medicines unsuitable for human consumption I would not. As for the packaging - if I bought a Les Paul guitar then opened the package to find it was a Saxophone , I would be duly disappointed.
