Why we are vehemently opposed to Black Horse demolition Why we are vehemently opposed to Black Horse demolition

MOSS Bank residents vehemently oppose the demolition of the Black Horse.

Demolition notices have been posted around the pub by Stepping Stones, who have bought the property, and demolition is due to begin at the end of this month (January 28).

If bats are found in the pub they will cause complications for the developer as they are a protected species.

There could also be protected wildlife sheltering in the dry stone wall of the bowling green.

The present plans for the construction of numerous houses over the car park and bowling green and involving the felling of a glorious sycamore tree have been rejected for the moment.

The historic Black Horse has been neglected over recent years.

The pub, along with the Mission, used to be the heart of the village.

With the first rejection of the plans, which seem to contravene with a number of St Helens’ planning policies, we cannot afford to tbe complacent.

We must keep fighting to minimise the damage to our landscape.

Get MacDonalds to apply for planning permission for it, you might get the council to support you then!
Not seriously of course - but you take my point! The council will do what it wants to do irrespective of what you or I think or want because they think they know better than us - right?

One likely scenario that we have seen time and again is that one dark night, usually on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday, the building will mysteriously catch fire. All the bats will be killed and the building will be severely damaged. It will then be declared unsafe and will need to be demolished thereby getting rid of all objections to any new development.
I sincerely hope this doesn't happen, but such things have happened before to even listed buildings!
